how to spread a little hope around

cellphoneSketchpad stumbled onto the very talented work of Kristina Růčková‎, last night. We asked Kristina if the above image was a composite/double exposure or if she had truly startled a seagull. We loved the motion in the image – both on the diagonal – the apparent speed of take off, but also the blurred zoom effect giving it extra dimension. Kristina used MasterFX to create the image, offering that she doesn’t think when she creates – that everything is a happy accident.

Her response captures the spirit of this blog, ntm, the spirit of Emily…

Hope is the thing with feathers

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

– Emily Dickinson, 1830 – 1886
