Brunswick, Maine, Wednesday, July 21. Rereuters. New solar powered instant recycling bins recently installed at various locations on the Bowdoin College campus appears to feature an info graphic engaging in flatulent behavior.
The graphic, evocative of the original ‘Pitch In’ icon from the 1970’s features the universal symbol for human being, dropping trash into the universal symbol for trash can. The figure, slightly bent at the hips to suggest a slightly untucked shirt and/or lowered pant was immediately sighted by graduate students in the biology department who made a connection between trash and the release of methane.
A rogue faction of students from the political science department assert that the ‘cartoony’ outlined update of the graphic was actually designed by Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, and is actually an abstract profile of the character, Homer without a nose or eyeball.
It is unlikely that the icons will be changed. Bowdoin college officials were not even attempted to be reached for comment.
